Can Your Santa Clarita Divorce Child Custody Agreement Be Non-Specific?

People are surprised (happily) that they will not have to come up with a specific child custody agreement as part of their Santa Clarita divorce.  Some people want a specific child custody agreement, but many of our clients do not.  In fact, many of our child custody agreements simply say that the spouses will each have joint legal and joint physical custody and will co parent on an ongoing basis in the best interest of the children. That’s it.

Should You Say You Have No Assets / Debts During Your Santa Clarita Divorce?

So let me start by saying that we do not give legal advice.  But, I had a client ask me if it was necessary to state if you have assets and debts if both spouses are in total agreement regarding their assets and debts.

Here is what I stated.  Nobody but the two of you know what you guys have. I don’t know and the Court does not know.  If you don’t disclose your assets and debts, nobody is going to know. You will be signing a documents that says you complied with this requirement.  The problem is that if you later have a disagreement with your spouse regarding the disposition of assets and debts you will have a court order from the divorce that does not indicate anything.

Why You Don’t Want To File Your Santa Clarita Divorce Response Form FL-120

Okay, just so you know, i am not giving legal advice here.  Just talking about ways to save money and we are talking only about Santa Clarita divorce cases which are amicable and both parties are in total agreement.

If you are in total agreement and your Santa Clarita divorce case is amicable, then filing a response is just a waste of money.  People fail to realize that when they go to file their divorce Response, they are going to be require to pay the divorce court fee as well.  It is just a waste of money if you are in agreement.

With our clients, we purposely don’t have the Response filed for this reason.  Watch this video or listen to the podcast where I explain.

Don’t Pay Two Santa Clarita Divorce Court Filing Fees

I have phrased this information so many different ways.  “How to save $435 on court filing fees”, “How to waste $435 in divorce court filing fees”, “Don’t file an uncontested Santa Clarita divorce case.

The point I am trying to get across is to help people understand that there are 2 court fees.  Once when you file the divorce petition and the other when you file the divorce response.  Watch this video or listen to the podcast where I explain how to save money on your Santa Clarita Divorce court filing fees.

Santa Clarita Divorce Season Has Begun

Every year in January is considered “divorce season”. All the folks who held off from filing during the holidays creates a huge bubble of divorce cases come January.  In Santa Clarita, this starts right when the kids go back to school.  So for my kids that go to Valencia High School, that is today.  I don’t know if all the Santa Clarita School Districts are on the same schedule, but we are already experiencing more calls as a result of school being back in and the holidays being over.

I explain more in this video and podcast.

Santa Clarita Divorce : Beware Online Divorce Services

If you go online to find a place to help you file for divorce, you will no doubt come across hundreds of “online divorce services”.  I want to warn you of what you are getting yourself into with these companies.  First, all you get is a bunch of paperwork mailed to you and you have to do all the work.  Most of the time, the paperwork they use is outdated.

I have had to many people come to me after wasting their money on these online divorce services that I make every effort to warn people of what they are about.

I explain more in this video and podcast.

Working Remotely, Working LAPD, And Ramping Up For Divorce Season

You may not know it, but I spent 15 years working for the Los Angeles Police Department. If you are ever in my office, you will see all my LAPD mugs, pictures and other cool stuff.

Working LAPD came with some interesting assignments, many of which are not very exciting.  For instance, working surveillance.  I spent many hours in a back of a van or unmarked undercover police care waiting for Mr. or Ms. Bad Guy.

I also had to write lots of police reports from the vehicle as well.  Fortunately, I was able to work a lot of specialized units and we did not have to drive the standard police car with the cage separating the front seats from the back seats.  ( yes unlike on TV, there is a cage the keeps people from attacking you from the back.)

This allowed us to seek refuge in the back of the car.  I know this is a bit of a rant, but right now I  am sitting in my car writing this post from my computer while using my Verizon hotspot to upload content.

I am going to let you in on a little secret. If you are ever waiting or stuck in your car and have to work from your car, the back seat is the absolute best place.  What you do is push the front seat all the way up as far as it will go. Then you jump in the back seat and you have tons of leg room and no steering wheel.  I know, kinda silly, but that is where i am sitting right now and it is quite comfortable.

Now that the kids are back in school, at least for some of the Santa Clarita school districts, we are already picking up in business.  This happens every year and I always talk about it on our videos and blogs.  Unless you are in the business, you probably never heard of it.  In fact, even those in the divorce business re unaware because they simply don’t do the volume of divorce cases that we do.

Until tomorrow.
