San Fernando Divorce Court Moves To Chatsworth Courthouse

We have learned that the San Fernando Divorce Court will be moving to the Chatsworth Courthouse effective November 17, 2014.  There has not been much talk about San Fernando divorce cases moving to Chatsworth however.  In fact, unless you have been down to the San Fernando courthouse in person, you likely will not have known.

For some reason, there has not been much talk about the move.  The Los Angeles Superior Court website make no mention of the fact that family law cases are moving and they have not sent out any notices to people with cases there.  The only reason we found out is because we are down there every day filing court documents that we saw the notice on the wall.

Here is what we know.  Effective November 17, 2014, all family law related matters are moving to Chatsworth court.  Cases previously heard at San Fernando’s Department L will be heard at Chatsworth Court’s department F-46.  Cases previously heard at San Fernando’s Department K will be heard in department F-48.

In addition to the move, Chatsworth will add one more family law division, making a total of 3.  With the addition of Department F-51, we are hoping that some of the backup of cases will ease and cases can be heard more quickly.  However, it appears that the new department at Chatsworth will be dedicated and used primarily as a Restraining Order Court.

It seems all family law related personnel are moving as well.  The Family Law Facilitator and Family Court Services are also relocating to Chatsworth Court.

Chatsworth Court is located at 9425 Penfield Avenue, 3rd Floor Chatsworth, CA 91311. For those of driving in from the Santa Clarita Valley I think this will be a better drive and also a better area in general.  The parking situation is definitely much better and the court will be easier to get to.
