Santa Clarita Divorce : Beware Online Divorce Services

If you go online to find a place to help you file for divorce, you will no doubt come across hundreds of “online divorce services”.  I want to warn you of what you are getting yourself into with these companies.  First, all you get is a bunch of paperwork mailed to you and you have to do all the work.  Most of the time, the paperwork they use is outdated.

I have had to many people come to me after wasting their money on these online divorce services that I make every effort to warn people of what they are about.

I explain more in this video and podcast.

Working Remotely, Working LAPD, And Ramping Up For Divorce Season

You may not know it, but I spent 15 years working for the Los Angeles Police Department. If you are ever in my office, you will see all my LAPD mugs, pictures and other cool stuff.

Working LAPD came with some interesting assignments, many of which are not very exciting.  For instance, working surveillance.  I spent many hours in a back of a van or unmarked undercover police care waiting for Mr. or Ms. Bad Guy.

I also had to write lots of police reports from the vehicle as well.  Fortunately, I was able to work a lot of specialized units and we did not have to drive the standard police car with the cage separating the front seats from the back seats.  ( yes unlike on TV, there is a cage the keeps people from attacking you from the back.)

This allowed us to seek refuge in the back of the car.  I know this is a bit of a rant, but right now I  am sitting in my car writing this post from my computer while using my Verizon hotspot to upload content.

I am going to let you in on a little secret. If you are ever waiting or stuck in your car and have to work from your car, the back seat is the absolute best place.  What you do is push the front seat all the way up as far as it will go. Then you jump in the back seat and you have tons of leg room and no steering wheel.  I know, kinda silly, but that is where i am sitting right now and it is quite comfortable.

Now that the kids are back in school, at least for some of the Santa Clarita school districts, we are already picking up in business.  This happens every year and I always talk about it on our videos and blogs.  Unless you are in the business, you probably never heard of it.  In fact, even those in the divorce business re unaware because they simply don’t do the volume of divorce cases that we do.

Until tomorrow.

Santa Clarita Divorce : How NOT To Save $435 On Your Divorce

I called this video, “How NOT to save $435 on your divorce”. The reason i did this is because for all of the people out there who are trying to complete your own divorce, at the end of the day you are going to make mistakes which will cost you money. One of those mistakes is that when you have an amicable divorce you still waste the money by filing a Response which is not necessary if your case is amicable. I explain more in the video and podcast below.

Santa Clarita Divorce : Which Court Do You File For Divorce In Los Angeles County?

When you are going to get a divorce and live in Santa Clarita or anywhere else in Los Angeles county, you need to figure out what divorce court you can file in. There is a lot of confusion on this topic and people seem to think that they can file anywhere they want, including a divorce court where they live. Where you file your divorce case is based on residence. Watch this video and podcast where i explain the rules.

Santa Clarita Divorce : Understanding What Our Divorce Service Does

People still think that the only way to get a divorce is through hiring an attorney. I had someone on facebook questioning our business and stating by providing this divorce service we were giving legal advice. Couldn’t be further from the truth. We are registered and bonded to provide divorce services directly to the public without the need for attorney supervision. I explain more in the video and podcast below.

Not Divorced Yet But Remarried : Does This Void Your Current Marriage?

We had a gal who became a client of ours on the spot who recently learned that her prior marriage was never dissolved. Meaning her divorce was never finalized in her first marriage and she had already remarried.

This happens more often than you would think. In this particular case, she called the court and someone told her that because of this, her current marriage is void. Someone does not know the difference between void and voidable.

I explain in the video and podcast below.

California Divorce : What County Can I File My Divorce Case In?

When going through a divorce in California there are certain rules that apply to where you can file your divorce case. First you have to determine which County you are going to file in and then you have to determine which branch court within the county you are going to file in. You can’t just pick and choose which County or Court you want to file your California divorce case in.

I explain in the below video and podcast.

Santa Clarita Child Custody Orders : How To Obtain Custody Orders When Never Married

When you have a child and are not married and need child custody orders, the court first needs to establish paternity of the father before they can make orders for child custody. This means that the court needs to establish the father as the father before making custody orders. This is the case even if the father signed the birth certificate and the declaration of paternity at the hospital. I explain in the video and podcast.
