Okay, so It is looking like at least once a week I am up at 3 or 3:30 a.m. and flat out can’t sleep. What better time to knock out a blog post.
This week we are working on getting ready for our camping trip to Grays Meadow in Independence, CA. In the last post about our camping trip, I was said I wanted to discuss more about what I learned about going up at high altitude. Know I know this is no Mt. Whitney, but the experts say anything over 8,000 feet and you should take some precautions.
Here is what I have learned. There are people talking online about taking a few over the counter drugs and vitamins that could help alleviate the symptoms of altitude sickness.
1. Ginko Biloba – i read that you should take either this 5 days and during your trip at high altiude.
2. A product called “altitude Adapt” which I learned of on another website in Colorado which was suggesting using it so not to ruin your trip.
3. Advil or similar product. My brother said he was camping at bout 8,500 feet a few months ago and felt like his eyeballs were going to pop out of his head. His young son did not feel well either. It was so bad that they had to drive down the hill in the middle of the night. He was told by a friend to take Advil. He said that his symptoms were gone in about 20 minutes.
4. Stay Hydrated / Eat Carbs – I read that you should stay hydrated and drink lots of water. That makes sense. I also read that you should eat lots of carbs. I assume because you are burning more calories as your body struggles at the high altitude.
We are hoping for a nice trip, but are prepared to come back early if necessary.
Okay, enough on that.
How about Donald Trump? I don’t know about you, but I am more excited about watching a Republican debate than in anytime in the past. Not that I have decided on who I am going to vote for, but I think it will be a breath of fresh air to see a non-politician on stage and am interested in seeing what he says and how the others react. I’ll comment more on this after the debate this Thursday.
I think I better try to get another hour or so of sleep or today is going to be pretty tough.
